Breastfeeding in TMC..
Being a 2nd time Mum, breast feeding should be a breeze for me since I had done it before with Dillion though it was not a 100% success with him as my milk supply was not much to shout about.
I was full of confident that with Damien, I can succeed since there are many success stories of doing it right for the 2nd kid.
I did not bother to bring out my PIS pump since I assume I can latch him direct and need not pump.
I read as much info on breast feeding as I could to prepare myself. I was very sure that this time round I can make it as I would not panic and succumb to giving Formula Milk if he cries.
And also to the extent of not informing my own relatives and friends so that I can have undisturbed time latching him in the ward. Crazy i know.
I WAS SO VERY WRONG! I had over estimated myself!
For 3 days in TMC, Damien slept like no tomorrow, as if he had a sleep debt.
He slept 90% of his time in TMC. When Nurses bring him in to feed, he hardly open his golden mouth.
Nurses helped to wake him up .. he just won't suckle.
I tried and tried .. all day all night.. I just could not get him to latch.
He survived in TMC by syringe-fed glucose from the Nurses. No signs of hunger from him.
I was thankful that he still managed to pee and poo in TMC.
I was so dejected.. I thought by just pinching my nipple and shove into his mouth is so easy preasy.. I was wrong.
Breast feeding takes 2 hands to clap. Problem lies with my dear boy whom have no interest in drinking.
So I went to Parent Craft and TMC to buy Medela Breastshield just minutes before discharge.. Since latching failed.. next best thing is to be a Pumping Cow.

Day 3
I was discharged after a 3D2N stay at TMC. I must say I miss my stay there. I was well taken care of, well-fed (i miss their confinement food!)and my well rested stay there.
Back home, we are on our own to take care of a new born. And no nursery to send Damien back to if we need to sleep.

I have not given up the hope of nursing Damien yet. He is still 90% sleep mode, no sign of hunger at all. But we gave Formula milk by spoon feeding him at night.

TMC's Premier Ward..
We wanted 1-bedder ward at TMC but it was fully booked and no was no such thing as free upgrade in their policy so we had to pay extra for Premier ward that comes with free internet access.

Their service was ok and Nurses were nice and quite efficient. Nurses from the Nursery were also encouraging and helpful in breastfeeding which I will blog on another post.
I love their confinement food! Especially Roti Prata with curry chicken. Pity no photos taken.

Arrival of Prince Damien!
9-10am: Arrived at TMC's Delivery ward. Did the neccessary paperwork. Changed and strap on to CTG. Still at 3cm dilation with very mild or painless contractions.

10-10.30 am: My Gynae, Dr Khi came and broke my waterbag with her fingers!
Knowing contractions will hit me any time.. I asked if there is any Doctor (for injecting Epidural) in TMC at the moment (as they are not stationed in TMC).
If there is one there I would not call for Epi straight away. If not, I would have to call for one now as they would take at least 30 minutes to come.. by then, I would have died!
Nurses checked and told me no Doctor on stand by hence I quickily asked for Epi.
10.30 am- Contractions start kicking in. I requested for Laughing Gas. After much reading up, I finally grasp the concept of using the Gas. That is quickily breathe in when or rather before the pain sets in. But I doubt I would be able to do this that long, hence Epi would be a wiser choice for me to relax.
10.45 am- Epi Doc came and she took blardy 15min to get it done! She was a relief Dr and not the one I appointed. For Dillion, the Dr merely took a few minutes to get it done. This time round, it was eternity for me and now I think Laughing Gas was god-sent while waiting.
11 am: Epi took effect and could feel contractions getting milder till zilch. Nurses shoo Kevin off for lunch as they think IT MAY NOT BE THAT FAST!!
11.30 am: I was shivering from the side effect of Epi. I felt Damien pushing down and quickily call for the Nurses and Dr Khi. Kevin had to hurried back from his lunch.
11.45 am: Dr Khi arrived and everyone starts to get ready as the head can be seen
11.50 am: With a few easy pushes.. Damien was out!

Another light weight baby for me.. Weighing in at 2.47kg @ 37 week gestation:

False Alarm..
We decided that perhaps 26th May shall be Baby #2's birthday so we check into TMC at 11am.
The labour ward was crowded and all nurses were busy running around. I suppose this must be a 'hot' date as we could not get a ward when Kevin went to do registration.
I was strapped on to monitor contractions. Strangely no contractions or rather very mild contractions were detected which does not means active labour.
Dr Khi suggested that I should go back home and not deliver today since I'm 1 day short of 37 weeks which means the Baby's lung should be matured and safe for delivery.
So tomorrow will be his birthday instead!
Kwa kwa kwa.. I think we had made a fool of ourselves!!

36th week check up
A routine checkup with Dr Khi on my 36wk 5 days. Baby weigh about 2.5 to 2.7kg from the scan.
She did a finger check and was stunned (I think she looked more kan cheong then me) that I am already 3cm dilated and she could feel the baby's head bouncing around in my water bag!!
Is a blessing that I do not feel any discomfort e.g. walking like a penguin during my #1 preg or contractions (which I should be having one according to her).
Was given a Letter of Admission which means it could be any time! And was given till Saturday for natural onset of labour.
We were quite shock as we were not ready for early arrival of baby #2 and our hospital bag was not ready at all.
Went back home and hurriedly pack my bag as I started to see 'red' down there after the check up.
We decided that perhaps we will check into TMC tomorrow morning to let Dr Khi break my water bag to kick start the labour. At least we do not have to do last minute baby sitting arrangement for Dillion.

Growth updates..
A pity that we do not have a scanner at home to scan all the ultrascan photos of our baby #2.
Here is Baby #2 growth update :
1st check up with Dr Caroline Khi from ACJ Clinic was done on 28 Oct 09 at 6week gestation.
Baby was 3.2mm. Heartbeat not detect yet at least we manage to see a water bag and a tiny dot. Previous miscarriage was just an empty sac.
EDD 17 June 2010.
@ 13week gestation & Oscar Test:
Baby now at 6.78cm. No abnormalities were detected.
@17week gestation:
Managed to spot the lil' birdie on the machine .. SO I'm expecting another BOY! Well, I won't deny that I was a tad disappointed as I was so hoping that the lil' one would be a girl. Most importantly is for my baby to be healthy and normal.
@21week gestation & Detailed Scan:
Boy weighing 326gm and so confirmed that is a BOY. No obvvious signs of fetal anomaly.
@24week gestation:
Weight:700gm
@28week gestation:
Weight: 1.4kg
@32week gestation:
Weight: 1.8kg
@34week - 36 week gestation:
Weight remain stagnant at 2.5kg
The weight gain for Baby #2 is exactly the same as his brother, Dillion. Dillion's weight was also stagnant at 2.5kg from 36 to 39week gestation hence resulting in induced labour.
My own weight gain this time round was good.. only gain 6kg so far. Nope, I have not been on special diet. Perhaps doing more housework helps to slow down my weight gain.
Its never easy being a SAHM with a active boy that drives you nuts at home!
